Ghost Riders In The Sky….
‘Ghost rider’ is yet another marvel comic strip brought to life on the silver screen. If you’re a fan of marvel productions, you might even know the director, Mark Steven Johnson, who also directed ‘Daredevil’. Unlike daredevil however, this movie does NOT suck tremendously.
The movie starts with a flashback to the old west, a voice tells you the history of the ghost riders: they are the bounty hunters of the devil. Flash forward, we see young Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) jumping true fire hoops on his bike along with his father (as you’ve guessed: they’re both stuntmen). Everything’s going fine in Johnny’s life his girlfriend Roxanne (Eva Mendes) tells him her father has ordered her to move away. Both of them feel it’s unfair and they agree to run off without telling anyone so that they can be together forever. Unfortunately things go slightly different. Johnny goes home and finds a letter in the trash. This letter shows that Johnny’s father has cancer and has only few months to live.
This is were the actual story begins. Johnny is upset and starts working on his bike to cool off a bit when a stranger – the devil- walks in. This stranger makes Johnny an offer: he will heal his father if he can have Johnny’s soul. Johnny is tricked into signing and in an instant he wakes up in his bed. He gets up and finds his father in perfect shape in the living room. His father, who is in such good shape, heads off to today’s show but while jumping he falls and dies. Johnny walks in and sees his father lying in the sand and the devil walking away. The devil had killed Johnny’s father. Johnny swears revenge….
A couple of years later we see an older Johnny, who is no longer jumping fire hoops but large distances over cars, fall and get up unharmed. He is said to have a guardian angel but we know better, don’t we? Then another figure appears: Blackheart – the devil’s son. He’s after an ancient contract containing the souls of a thousand of the most evil beings who ever walked the earth which would allow him to take his father’s throne.
Of course the devil won’t allow this to happen and sends ghostrider after the contract and Blackheart ordering him to bring to contract to him and kill Blackheart. Ghostrider, the devil’s bounty hunter, takes over Johnny’s body and begins his search for the contract and Blackheart. And so the story unfolds…
This movie is definitely worth watching, even if you don’t like marvel comics. This movie has it all: police chases, gun fights, fist fights, romance, skeletons on flaming bikes and pretty girls….
